The Foundation raises funds to finance the development of the Douglas Institute: patient care, research in neuroscience and mental health, and education and training.

The Douglas Hospital Research Centre is the second largest mental health research centre in Canada and the only psychiatric teaching hospital affiliated with McGill University.

Job description:

The Douglas Foundation is seeking an experienced resource to secure gifts from individuals, foundations and corporate companies for our major gifts program, including planned gifts. Reporting to the Director, Major Gifts, the incumbent will be responsible for cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects and donors.

We are a small team with a big agenda and we are looking for someone talented and enthusiastic to join us as we build hope for the millions of Canadians that are suffering from mental illness.

Areas of Responsibility

The incumbent will work closely with the Director, Major Gifts and other members of the team in the following areas:

  • Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors composed of individuals, foundations and corporate companies. Formulate, recommend and implement cultivation strategies to secure major gifts ($25,000 +) in support of the Douglas’ priorities and initiatives.
  • Identify and qualify individuals to determine capacity, inclination and interest in providing major gifts to the Douglas.
  • Participate in the growth of the Douglas’ Annual Fund by soliciting current donors, reactivating lapsed donors and acquiring new leadership donors through face-to-face meetings, emails and phone calls.
  • Oversee the organization of special engagement/stewardship events geared to major gift prospects and to enhancing ongoing donor relationship development.
  • Develop links with stakeholders: researchers, physicians, and other health professionals.
  • Participate in the data integrity of the client-server database software (DonorPerfect) by filing timely and appropriate contact reports, recording of proposals, etc.
  • Undertake special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous fundraising experience (5 years or more), with a proven track record of meeting and exceeding targets.
  • Proven experience in bringing in $25,000 gifts and higher in a variety of contexts.
  • An effective team member, experienced in working collectively toward goals.
  • Fully bilingual (French and English).
  • Post-secondary education in relevant field.
  • Computer proficiency in using the MS Office suite.
