Urban Pardes is a charitable organization whose mission is to help Montreal adults living with a mental illness rebuild confidence, purpose and community. We do this through the bilingual non-denominational psycho-social programming of Donald Berman UP House, serving over 200 active members, and via a signature annual event, the Au Contraire Film Festival, engaging the Montreal community through film experiences that inspire, educate, challenge and entertain.


Job description:

The Development Manager position is an exciting new opportunity to contribute leadership to a vibrant organization in a flexible work arrangement that suits you. You can help us ensure adequate financing for our mission, expand our care programs and build strong new initiatives. You will be collaborating with people who are passionate about promoting recovery programs for, and dispelling stereotypes of, those living with mental illness.

We are seeking an energetic and ambitious development professional with a range of fundraising knowledge and experience. A results-driven team player with a positive attitude, an exceptional communicator and the ability to be both a strategic thinker and a do-er.

Reporting to the Executive Director, you will:

  • Be responsible for developing and implementing a philanthropic development plan for annual and special projects support;
  • Research and identify prospective individual, foundation and corporate donors and partners; develop strategies to cultivate and steward these relationships;
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the charity, including annual fund appeals, direct mail and online giving campaigns, donor acknowledgement and stewardship;
  • Coordinate a successful peer to peer campaign led by volunteers;
  • Maximise sponsorship support for our signature event and provide direction for third party and other event/s coordination;
  • Develop cases for support, proposals, grant applications, sponsorships, gift agreements and reports;
  • Actively advise and support the Executive Director and volunteers on strategy and philanthropic development.

You are:

  • Self-directed, results driven, highly motivated, with excellent organizational and priority management skills;
  • A strong communicator, empathetic, with strong interpersonal skills;
  • Proactive and collaborative, with the adaptability and creativity to work on fundraising strategies in their early development;
  • Autonomous, conscientious, with unquestionable ethics and excellent judgment;
  • Aware of best practices in fundraising and the regulatory obligations of a non-profit organization – a CFRE designation is an asset.

You have:

  • At least three years of experience in a fund or revenue development role, with a proven success record;
  • Strong verbal communication skills in both French and English and strong written communication skills in at least one of these languages;
  • A Bachelor’s Degree;
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of work tools such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Proficiency in the use of non-profit database management software such as Raiser’s Edge or DonorPerfect. Expertise in the Keela platform is an asset;

We offer you:

  • A flexible full-time or part-time work arrangement, depending on your skill set and experience;
  • A salary/consulting fee range of $40 000 to $60 000 based on experience and skills;
  • Coverage of your health insurance, 4-week vacation, flexible schedule, parking spot;

  • An immediate start date;
  • A remote position through Fall 2021 – you should be prepared to return to work at an office location once this is safe and feasible.
